Group spreads wealth - Foundation awards scholarship, $10,000 donation to club

(May 06, 2010) - The conference center at the LaFont Inn was packed for the Rotary Club's weekly meeting Wednesday as the Bacot/McCarty Foundation took center stage and kicked off several days of activities that culminate with the foundation's annual gala Friday night and its Saturday golf tournament.

During the hourlong program, Bacot/McCarty Executive Director Todd Trenchard presented the Rotary Club's largest scholarship, worth $2,500, to Pascagoula High School senior LaBrandon Pickett. Read more...

Saints stars to appear at Bacot/McCarty Foundation charity event

(April 25, 2010) - Local fans of the Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints won't have to wait until the start of the NFL season or drive to the Big Easy to get a glimpse of Marques Colston and Pierre Thomas.The two Saints stars will be in attendance at the Bacot/McCarty Foundation's silent auction and gala reception May 7.

"This is a unique opportunity," said Todd Trenchard, the foundation's executive director. "We've always brought in sports celebrities, and we made it a priority this year to celebrate the Saints' big win." Read more...

Local legends again lend their names to Jolly McCarty Tournament

Gautier, Miss. (Feb. 16, 2006) – NFL veterans Shane Matthews and Terrell Buckley have once again teamed up to participate in the annual Jolly McCarty Memorial Golf Tournament.

Family commitments kept them away from the much-anticipated tournament kick-off today, but both men said they are looking forward to the gala and golf classic that bears their names.

“We’re going to make it a fun and exciting event,” Shane said.

Teammates at Pascagoula High School in the late ‘80s, the two became Grid Iron rivals when Terrell went to Florida State and Shane chose Florida. The two later enjoyed separate successes with the NFL. Shane most recently played for the Buffalo Bills, while Terrell postponed his retirement plans to spend a year with the New York Giants. GAUTIER -- Shane Matthews is coming home to play golf and bringing a few of his friends.

Matthews, an accomplished NFL quarterback of 12 years who has thrown more than 4,700 yards with the Chicago Bears, Washington Redskins, Carolina Panthers and Buffalo Bills, will lend his name, connections and swing to the  Jolly McCarty Memorial Shane Matthews Celebrity Golf Classic.

Matthews, a 1988 graduate of Pascagoula High School, is the son of Bill Matthews of Pascagoula and the late Peggy Matthews. Read more...

GAUTIER - Organizers said Wednesday that July 16 will be a day of food, fun and a purpose.

Official plans were announced for the annual Jolly McCarty Memorial/Shane Matthews Celebrity Golf Classic, which will be held at Shell Landing Golf Course.

"There is nothing like having fun and doing good at the same time and that's what this super event will be," said Dewey Lane, president of the Bacot/Jolly P. McCarty Foundation, sponsor and benefactor of the fund-raising event. Read more...

 

 

Terrell Buckley Agrees to Co-Host Local Golf Classic

PASCAGOULA -- The Bacot/Jolly P. McCarty Foundation announced Thursday that New York Jets defensive back Terrell Buckley has agreed to co-host the Jolly McCarty Memorial Shane Matthews Celebrity Golf Classic with his NFL buddy. 

Buckley, a graduate of Pascagoula High School, played with the Green Bay Packers, Miami Dolphins, Denver Broncos, New England Patriots and New York Jets.

The double shotgun-start tournament will be played July 16 at Shell Landing in Gautier. A reception and silent auction is set for the night before at the Grand Casino Biloxi. Read more...

 

 

 

Golf Classic to Raise Money for Youth Center

GAUTIER -- This year's Jolly McCarty Memorial Golf Classic will raise money for a future teen center in Gautier that is supposed to bring several area youth groups together under one roof.

At a press conference Friday morning, Bacot/McCarty Foundation Executive Director Todd Trenchard announced details about the annual fund-raiser for the nonprofit foundation, which focuses its efforts on helping youth organizations.

Trenchard said he does not have many details yet, but he is discussing options with the Boys & Girls Clubs, YMCA, Youth For Christ and other organizations. Read more...
